After Maemo’s statement on Nokia that Nokia plans to shift on Maemo OS from Symbian OS for their high-end N-Series devices on 2012, Nokia responded back that this is completely premature statement and we have not such planned to shift on Maemo OS right now.
Maemo marketing team got meet up on the occasion of Nokia N900 in London and stated that Nokia is planning to drop Symbian and shifting on Maemo OS by 2012. But the devices running on Symbian which are currently under development will be developed as they should have with Symbian. That was just an excitement from Maemo while meet up.
Of course, Nokia has to be responded back on this issue in front of gadget world. Nokia finally stated that this is completely premature statement and we’ve not done such planning to shift on Maemo soon. Symbian is more successful tied up with Nokia and Maemo OS is one of the other choice for high-end devices like desktop computer to run on.
You can see below the official response from Nokia Corporate Communication:
“While it is our policy not to disclose details of our product roadmap, we’d like to explicitly communicate that we remain firmly committed to Symbian as our smartphone platform of choice. Any speculation on what our 2012 roadmap, including operating systems and product branding, are completely premature.
As we have stated earlier, Nokia has multiple platforms to serve different purposes and address different markets. Symbian is more successful than ever in bringing smartphones to the masses. Maemo is our software of choice for devices based on technology that you’d typically find inside a desktop computer. It delivers a different user experience and enables us to widen the market we can address.”
